Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane is one of the world’s leading mobility players, a benchmark for its high level of expertise in the railway sector and its use of innovative technologies. The FS Group operates around 16,800 km of track (including 1,000 km of high-speed) and 32,500 km of roads and motorways. In 2023, it recorded revenues of €14.8 billion and a profit of €100 million with over 92,000 employees in Italy and abroad. In the year, it carried 46 billion passenger-km by rail, 1.8 billion passenger-km by road and 21.1 billion tonne-km with approximately 9,700 trains per day. International presence is ensured by the direct involvement of several Group companies. In Europe, now considered the domestic market, the subsidiaries Netinera, Trenitalia UK, Trenitalia France, Hellenic Train, Ilsa/Iryo, QBuzz, Mercitalia, and TX Logistik operate in passenger and freight transport. Furthermore, the Group exports its technological, operational, and engineering know-how for the development of mobility projects (with a focus on railways) all over the world through the companies Italferr for engineering activities, and Italcertifer for certification services.
